Looking back I don’t remember a more uplifting month of April in all the spring seasons I have lived through.
The last weeks were filled with beautiful moments and of course there has been hardship and sorrow as well, but those are fading fast and the good times stay. This is largely owned to the end of the hormone therapy on 6th of April. While I still encounter the occasional hot flashes, the mood swings have become a lot less and the depressive episodes also. Overall sleep has improved, even shorter nights are way more relaxing than they were in the months before.

And the weather. Though it is much too dry for the season, the sunny days, the blooming fruit trees and all the flowers in our garden make for a much better mood.

Some of the good things in April:
– new vet
Pina had to get her shots against rabies and cat flu, so we checked in with a new vet in Johannisberg and this was a good choice. Seems we found ourselves a good partner for all things concerning cat health there and they are just around the corner compared to our previous one
– first service of my new car at the dealership in Geisenheim
Not only was it really cheap, I also got to experience the public transport, when collecting the car. That was nicer than expected, effortless and quick.
– Easter lunch at Jenny’s mom’s
Green sauce, the traditional dish of spring in our region, served with various side dishes (eggs, salmon, potatoes) – a delicious meal and our short hike in Eschborn’s arboretum afterwards made for a perfect day.

– Kim’s birthday
Together with Jenny we emptied the garden hut and put 50% of the contents under a tarp for trash collection some time soon. Then we laid out all the carpets inside and prepared everything for the old shelf to be installed in the coming weeks. Afterwards we went for lunch at the Rheinterrassen in Hattenheim and had excellent fish and chips. We spent the rest of the day relaxing and had a very good time.
– memorable times in Darmstadt with Silke
We saw Hagen Rether at the Darmstadtium (see separate post), explored the Frühlingsfest fair and had a great hike along Oberfeld, Rosen- and Mathildenhöhe. Though I must have caught some bug affecting my digestion just days ago, we still had a good time and I was given some of the best care imaginable.
– hikes and excursions by foot and e-scooter
Be it in the Rheingau, the Vordertaunus or the Darmstadt region, I have been out and about a lot more this month, a new trail near Glashütten will soon become a standard, the scooter got some mileage and I am becoming more aquainted with Darmstadt.

Besides a small glass of red wine recently but otherwise still being in the alcohol-free realms, the beers and the good food have an effect on me, though. For the first time in my life I experience shirts getting (considerably) tighter and trousers shrinking. I am not worrying, though. Yet.
80kgs is still okay for my height.

So. April gone and things look much better atm here’s to an even better May.
