May – A Month to Forget (Mostly)
I could have done without this month. Not a catastrophe, not a disaster, but too many ugly little moments made it one I’d rather forget. Still, there were highlights—it wasn’t all bad.
A Slow Start
May began at a crawl, as the tail end of April left me slightly under the weather. My stomach and circulation were out of whack, but my dear friends took great care of me. The first few days dragged on.
Then the bloodwork results came in—and they weren’t great. Not a crisis yet, but the next test is in four weeks. I expect the final round of radiotherapy to have been just as effective as the first: that is, not at all. Here’s hoping I’m wrong.
Visits and Small Joys
Katrin, Tobi, and the dogs visited on the very days the weather turned sour. We still managed to have a good time, though: a nice hike and a trip to WeinWelt Rüdesheim, where we sampled the alcohol-free wines from the Carl Jung vineyard. A few bottles made their way into our fridge.
Jenny and I finally completed our pond tour again—for the first time in months. I also started preparing for two short getaways at the end of May: five days in Darmstadt and at the Nieder-Moos campsite in the Vogelsberg region of Hesse, followed by three days with Jenny at the Geisenheim campsite, where we stayed in one of their sleeping barrels.
A Look Ahead
I’ll write separate posts about these little adventures, focusing on the good times—not the emotional abyss I tumbled into at the very end of the month – again. I’ll need to tread carefully in the future; this kind of stress could cost me relationships I’ve cherished for a long time.
As you can see, May was not my month. And June won’t be much better—the test results at the start of the month will largely determine what comes next. I’ll keep you posted.
And Now, the Usual Suspects…
