Alles neu macht 2025 – ich habe dieses Jahr Spotify gekündigt und werde es nicht weiter nutzen.
Von daher diesmal der Link zu Deezer und zu Youtube.

The Specials – The Lunatics (have taken over the asylum)
It was after the election in the USA and even before the inauguration of the orange one into office that it became clear The Specials had been on a prophecy ride when they put out this song in 1981.
Just the truth, my friends. Not only in the USA, but all over the world.
They’re watching every move we make, we′re all included on the list
Tommee Profitt feat. Fjøra – Eye of the Tiger
Who else has been watching the first season of Paradise? The soundtrack features many highlights, but Eye of the Tiger immediately caught my attention. The powerful version works extremely well in the show, but also provides a ton of fun on a good car stereo.
And if you haven’t seen Paradise (the show) yet: Change that. It’s brilliant.
Risin‘ up, back on the street, did my time, took my chances
Kasey Chambers – Lose Yourself
Sure, this song is by Eminem. And it’s one of his best. The flow is awesome. However, Kasey Chambers completely transforms it and in my opinion makes it even better. It’s inspiring to watch youtube-reactions to the video of her performance. Folks are just blown away, rightfully so.
Success is my only motherfuckin option, failure’s not
The Waterboys feat. Bruce Springsteen – Ten years gone
Of course they got me just with the line that one of my favourite bands, namely the Waterboys would be working together with Bruce Springsteen. Mike Scott has more than once expressed my state of mind, sometimes I felt him living in my head and drawing his inspiration from there with songs like My Dark Side or Destinies Entwined. And I don’t think I have to start talking about Bruce.
Ten years gone is a beautiful tale about getting older without losing grip.
He’s still moving, he’s still grooving, he’s still able somehow to bring some of that old magic to the table.
G.Voz – Tides
Ooooh, I just love that groove. Back in the spotify-era, this was in my recommendations one day and that was the day I put it on this list here. Must have listened to it a 1000 times.
Behold, there goes pride, all that I was is gone
The Exploding Boy – 11:59
Late to the party again, but what a gorgeous party that is. This is my music, this is my atmosphere, this is my scene. A world, where melodies melt in gentle guitars and synthesizers soothe your soul. I fell hard for this song and for the band likewise, even got some very expensive merch.
They are named after a song by The Cure and for me they are everything The Cure lost when they started to get more commercial and started writing pop songs rather than dark hymns for troubled teenagers😉
This the song I feel most on this sampler. Not the most important song on this sampler.
I said can you feel it?
The wind run through your hair without the healing,
cold and in despair.
Fever Ray – Red Trails
Hello Karin Dreijer, it is no surprise to hear you in this here compilation. Fever Ray is one of my all-time favourites and Red Trails speaks to me on such a deep and intimate level that I cannot even start to describe, what I feel when listening to these lines:
Blood was our favourite paint, you were my favourite pain.
Scratches when skin′s too thin, throwing me someone new to take in.
Archive – Bullets
Another one I instinctively chose because of the way it is moving and grooving. Love the pace and repetitions. Funny that this song was taken for a German show (Ein Fall für Zwei) back in 2012 – I did have no idea, but then it is my fate to always find good songs much later than when they were originally released.
Come and make me a martyr, come and break my feeling with your violence with the gun on my head
Goodnight, Texas – Dearest Sarah
And here we go, the most important song of my collection this year. Not because it is brilliantly beautiful and the lyrics are heartbreaking, not because it is based upon a real letter by a union officer in the civil war, not because the story of the name of the band is so cute.
It’s because this song started something this year that is still in evolution, growing every day and making me extremely happy. It’s difficult to hide tears of joy every time the first chords are playing.
Understand my inner fight, I didn’t choose the war
I sided with democracy – yes that is what I’m dying for
Skáld – Elverhøy
Here come the northmen! At least when you are located in Marocco for example, for Skáld come – from France. 😂
That does not keep them from singing songs in old norse about elfs and trolls and gods. As to whether their use of old norse or other scandinavian language is correct, I cannot testify, but there’s some discussion about that on the web. I like the song for its pace and overall good production, it’s on this list since I first heard it back in spring of this year.
De danset ut, de danset inn, alt i den elverferd
They danced in and out all in that elven journey
Editors – Two-hearted spider
Another one that is very dear to me. According to Deezer my most played song this year. Such beautiful words, such an intense melody and I have always had a soft spot for the Editors anyway.
Two-hearted spider is definitely a love song – the kind of which is up for discussion, as it can be interpreted in many ways. I hear tragedy, but then I will always hear tragedy – if possible. When it comes to emotions tragedy is just raw and overwhelming. I like that.
Let’s build ourselves an island. I want it now. If they build a prison, I′ll knock it down.
John Carpenter – The Dead Walk
Carpenter fans unite! Assault on precinct 13, Escape from New York, Christine, Halloween and The Fog are just glimpses into the creative soul of John Carpenter who ever so often provided the score for his movies as well. Those eighties synths with their mostly simple rhythms have always been captivating and having played them keys myself I was a fan as long as I can remember.
This year I discovered the Lost-Themes-Albums with tons of songs that never made it into movies and The Dead Walk is one of them. And a real treat on the car stereo at night.
A reality is just what we tell each other it is (Quote from ‚Mouth of Madness)
Mal Élevé – Resistenza
I would be very critical of everybody, who uses the great anthem ‚Bella Ciao‘ as a base for a song – and I make no exception for Mal Élevé. However, he not only does a fantastic job but is also one of the most credible people, when it comes to ANTIFA activism, be it via song and dance or action and support.
Resistenza IMHO is one of Mal’s best songs to date and works excellently live in concert as proven during the Irie Révoltés-Show in October.
Jagt den Faschismus raus ins Weltall – Lottiamo per la Libertà!
Dritte Wahl – Gefühlt ist es noch kälter
What a banger by the boys from Rostock. I haven’t really paid much attention to Dritte Wahl so far, but had them in my 2022-collection with Das regelt der Markt, which was much more on the humorous side than this year’s Gefühlt ist es noch kälter.
A brilliant piece of German Punk/Hardrock.
Im Sterben und Verderben nimmt Geschichte ihren Lauf.
Louis Aguilar – When I’m gone
If you don’t start breathing, too – these words got to me immediately upon hearing the song for the first time and I had it on heavy rotation all through the year. I especially dig the live version in the Hortillonages d’Amiens (it’s up there in the youtube-playlist). Also Louis is a beautiful person.
Oh but it won′t be happening if you don’t start breathing too
Biffy Clyro – Woe is me, Wow is you
The three boys from Glasgow have delivered a very good album again. I do consider Futique not to be an outstanding works, but it is definitely solid Biffy Clyro stuff. Woe is me, Wow is you still grows on me and I just love the crescendos in the chorus and the split vocals.
I’ve seen the shine, I’ve seen the cracks, I know the toll it takes, that weight upon my back
Frank Turner – Never mind the back problems
Leaving 2025 and this sampler on a positive, if not hilarious note. Franks love declaration to punk from his Undefeated album is a wonderful romp, 1:27 minutes of fast guitars and even faster vocals. I put on to give myself a reminder for the things to come and I fully support almost every word of the lyrics.
I’ll find the money to waste my time at punk shows every night
So you give up and go home if you want, but I’m signed up for life
